Acne & Rosacea

Acne

The most common dermatological problem in the United States is acne. While acne is often thought of as a problem faced by teenagers, anyone of any age can struggle with it. And acne can come with some unintended side effects, including poor self-esteem, which can add to mental health struggles.

Our skin is designed to renew itself. We see that any time we get a cut or a scrape, but did you know your skin is constantly shedding dead skin cells and replacing them with new ones? It is these dead skin cells that can cause problems for people who suffer from acne.

The dead skin cells, along with oil for your skin, can get stuck in a pore, clogging it and causing pimples. Sometimes, bacteria can mix with the dead skin cells in the clogged pore where it can grow and multiply, causing an acne outbreak.

The good news is that you don’t have to just wait for acne to clear up on its own. A variety of topical and oral treatments are available to restore your skin to its natural, healthy appearance. Treating acne is important to prevent scarring and to boost self-confidence, especially in teenagers.

Rosacea

Rosacea is a skin condition that affects more than 15 million Americans. Anyone can have rosacea, but it is most common in fair-skinned women over the age of 30.

Rosacea symptoms can include flushing or blushing in the center part of the face, small bumps on the face that are sometimes filled with pus, and areas of broken blood vessels on the face. Rosacea is not permanent. Like acne, it can come and go.

While rosacea has no cure, the symptoms are treatable with a combination of caring for your skin correctly and medication. Often, treating rosacea requires a combination of both topical and oral medications.
